Just Another Pair of Socks is a research tool to assist those with an interest in finding out about people with a connection to the Melton area who served in World War One.
The Website can be viewed at: http://meltondistrictanzacs.org.au
Research data for each person has not been written up into a story, but remains in its raw form so that you can draw your own conclusions and write up the information to suit your needs. We leave you to write your own story.
This site is titled Just Another Pair of Socks because our research has shown that soldiers often wrote home requesting “just another pair of socks”. The women and children of Melton knitted many pairs of socks which the Melton branch of the Red Cross sent overseas to support wounded soldiers and those suffering with trench foot.
Material contained in this website has been prepared by volunteers from the Melton Family History Group and local historian, Christine Love and with support from the Federal Government’s Anzac Centenary Local Grants program. Every effort has been made to provide accurate information.
The Website Launch was held on Monday 16th November 2015 at 11.00 am at the Melton Library.
A very successful presentation was attended by an enthusiastic crowd from our Federal Minister, State Member, local Councillors, RSL representatives, local community members, visitors with connections to the soldiers and school children.
